Large-scale metal composition spectrometer

Large-scale metal composition spectrometers provide rapid, precise elemental analysis for metals in industrial and research applications, using technologies like OES, XRF, and EDS.

Types of Spectrometers

Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES): OES spectrometers, such as the SPECTROMAXx, are widely used in metal production and fabrication plants. They deliver fast, accurate elemental analysis for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including iron, aluminum, and copper, with improved limits of detection and automated monitoring of operating parameters for consistent performance.

OE

S is particularly effective for steel quality control, analyzing elements like carbon, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and rare-earth elements such as cerium to refine microstructures and enhance corrosion resistance. X-ray Fluorescence (XRF): XRF spectrometers, including energy-dispersive and wavelength-dispersive systems, measure the energies and intensities of emitted X-rays to determine elemental composition. These instruments are versatile for metals, alloys, and other materials, providing rapid, non-destructive analysis suitable for laboratory, at-line, or field applications.

Portable XR

F analyzers allow on-the-spot testing for metals sorting, mining exploration, and regulatory compliance.

Energy-

Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS/EDX): EDS is used for macro, micro, and nanoscale compositional analysis. It identifies elements by their unique X-ray line profiles and is often integrated with scanning electron microscopes (SEM) for detailed mapping of inclusions, oxides, and intermetallic compounds in metals like steel and aluminum. Automated SEM-EDS systems provide quantitative phase analysis and insights into microstructure, strength, and fatigue properties.

Applications

Steel and Alloy Production: Ensures compliance with strict standards, monitors high-value elements, and reduces correction time in mini-steel plants. Foundries and Fabrication Plants: Fast, reliable analysis of raw materials and finished products to maintain quality and throughput. Research and Materials Development: Characterization of micro-inclusions, intermetallic compounds, and rare-earth elements to optimize mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

Field and On-

Site Testing: Portable OES and XRF systems enable positive material identification (PMI) and analysis of large parts or thin foils down to 20 microns.
