Secondary Protection Relays Abb

Calculation of secondary settings for relay protection

Relays measure secondary impedance, so we convert using: Zsecondary=Zprimary× (CTratio/VTratio) Example: Zsecondary= (5+j20)×500/1200=2. Zone Settings (Practical Example) 2. 1 Zone 1 (Instantaneous, 80-85% Reach) Purpose: Fast tripping for faults within. This technical report refers to the electrical protections of all 132kV switchgear. All calculations are based on the available documentation/ information. These settings may be revaluated during the commissioning, according to actual and/or measured values. Protection selectivity is partly. Distance relays measure impedance (Z = V/I) to detect faults. First, each utility must develop a solid protection philosophy that establishes the guideline for setting the functionality of protective relays.
