Wiring of frequency converter cabinet distribution box

Proper wiring of a frequency converter cabinet requires correct main and control circuit connections, secure grounding, and adherence to installation and safety standards.

Installation Environment

Ensure the cabinet is installed in a suitable environment: ambient temperature between -10℃ and 40℃, relative humidity below 90% without condensation, free from corrosive or flammable gases, minimal dust, and at an altitude below 1000 meters. Avoid direct sunlight and ensure adequate ventilation for cooling, especially if multiple converters are installed side by side.

Cabinet Layout and Clearance

Maintain at least 100mm clearance on both sides and 150mm on top and bottom for proper airflow. For multiple converters, install them side by side; if vertical installation is necessary, use partitions to prevent overheating. Leave at least 12.

7mm air clearance around live parts, busbars, and contact bolts to ensure safety during operation or testing.

Main Circuit Wiring

Connect the input terminals (R, S, T) and output terminals (U, V, W) correctly; incorrect connections can damage the converter or motor. Select wire diameters according to the converter's rated capacity, similar to motor wiring of the same power rating. Ensure all connections are tight and meet local electrical codes.

Control Circuit Wiring

Follow the manufacturer's terminal diagram for control wiring, including start/stop signals, protection relays, and communication interfaces. Keep control wiring separate from high-power lines to reduce electromagnetic interference.

Grounding and Safety

Proper grounding is critical: connect all modules to the cabinet PE busbar using copper busbars or cables; fixing screws alone are insufficient. Use flat copper braids for EMC compliance and ensure the cabinet door is also earthed if it contains devices other than low-voltage components. Follow all safety instructions in the converter manual to prevent electric shock, equipment damage, or fire hazards.

Ventilation and Cooling

For cabinets with internal cooling, install a forced-air fan near the top of the cabinet to maintain airflow over the converters. Ensure that partitions or barriers do not obstruct airflow around the modules.

Final Checks

Verify all wiring against the circuit and terminal diagrams provided by the manufacturer. Confirm that all connections are secure, grounding is continuous, and clearances are maintained. Test the system according to the manufacturer's instructions before full operation.

Following these steps ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a frequency converter cabinet or distribution box.
