Huawei Fiber Optic Switch Connection

Connecting a Huawei fiber optic switch involves preparing hybrid cables, splicing pigtails, installing optical modules, and configuring combo ports if applicable. Step 1: Prepare the Hybrid CableSeparate the power and optical fibers from the hybrid cable. Insert the two power cables into the provided phoenix connector and tighten the screws to secure the copper cores.

For the optical fiber, separate it from the hybrid cable and prepare it for splicing with a pigtail. Step 2: Splice the PigtailSplice the pigtail to the main fiber cable using proper fiber splicing techniques. If you are not using a Hybrid Distribution Frame (HDF), place the spliced cable into a hybrid cable terminal box or a fiber management tray to prevent damage or contamination.

Step 3: Install Optical ModulesRemove dust plugs from the optical ports on the switch. Insert the appropriate optical module (SFP or SFP+ depending on the port type) into the switch. Connect the fiber pigtail to the optical module, ensuring proper alignment and secure connection.

Step 4: Connect PowerInsert the phoenix connector into the DC power port on the switch. Ensure the polarity is correct, although most Huawei connectors are polarity-insensitive. Route and bundle the cables neatly using cable ties, leaving enough slack for maintenance.

Step 5: Configure Combo Ports (if applicable)If your switch has combo ports (optical-electrical multiplexing ports), you may need to switch the port to optical mode. Enter system view on the switch and run the command: combo enable fiber. To revert to electrical mode, use undo combo enable fiber.

Ensure the same configuration is applied on the peer device. Step 6: Test the ConnectionAfter physical installation, verify the fiber link by checking the port status on the switch. Ensure the optical module is recognized and the link is active.

Use diagnostic commands to confirm signal integrity and connectivity.

Additional Tips

Use L

C connectors for short runs and ensure connectors match on both ends. Minimize pigtail length and reserve sufficient space in the cable management tray. Avoid sharp bends in the fiber to prevent signal loss or breakage.

Ground the switch if required by local regulations, especially in areas with high electromagnetic interference. Following these steps ensures a reliable and safe connection of a Huawei fiber optic switch, supporting both hybrid and direct fiber connections.
